Nothin' But Net
Tuesday night marked the kickoff of the 2023-2024 basketball season. After several weeks of tryouts, Parkside High School’s Boys' and Girls’ Basketball Team showcased their diligence and demonstrated teamwork when they won against Easton High’s Warriors. The girls played away at Easton, while the boys played at home during their first game night. Despite their opening game being played away, the girls proved that practice equals perfection by dominating the courts with their layups and working together as a team. Basketball tryouts started back in mid-November of this year, and since then, our Rams have been gearing up for Parkside’s first basketball game of the year.
During the last ten minutes of the final quarter, Parkside’s Boys JV basketball team continued to dribble, bounce and successfully shoot the ball into the basket. Although time was limited, the boys triumphantly won their last quarter through blood, sweat and tears but more importantly, dedication. Thirdly, the Boys Varsity Basketball Team showed audiences that like their predecessors, they can ball too on the court. The Boys Varsity Basketball Team was led by star athlete, Dustin Brown, who throughout the game, demonstrated sportsmanship and tenacity, going so far as to helping his fellow teammates when one of them fell to the ground while attempting to steal the ball from one of the Easton Warriors. Furthermore, Brown exhibited tenacity and bravery and served as an effective leader as a basketball player on the court.
Additionally, each and every one of our Parkside staff members and students supported our Ram ballers by not only showing up to support all six of our school’s basketball teams but roared for our players while on the edge of the bleachers. We also had our cheerleading squad cheering on the players incessantly chanting “defense!” during the majority of the game. Following the closure of fall sports such as football, Parkside High School opened their basketball season with a bang, elating the Rams and sports fans alike with their basketball teams’ first victory. At one point, the Rams had five fouls during the third quarter, and nearly came to a tie with the Easton Warriors’ in the final quarter but came home victorious in that same quarter. Lastly, even with all of the fouls, the Rams fought valiantly and still beat the Warriors in the end.
